Course Overview:

Are you interested in learning to code, but you don’t feel confident in basic computer skills? Are you looking for a new job in another field and finding that you lack the necessary computer skills to apply? Students in CanCode Communities’ Beginner Computer Training course will have a wide range of experiences and competencies, ranging from those who have used a computer frequently in a professional environment to those who have rarely used a computer and feel very nervous about doing so. This class is intended to meet students wherever they are and help them achieve their own personal goals, whether that is entry into CanCode Communities’ workforce computer programming courses or other employment opportunities. The key to achieving digital literacy is differentiated learning, ensuring that each student is getting the skills they need and that they are able to move at their own pace. The course will cover basic computer usage skills, a survey of software usage including word processing and spreadsheet use, use and management of email, and using the web to conduct productive internet searches to find reliable information and learning tools.

Course Details:

Days/Times: This course meets two evenings per week. Occasional labs outside of classes will provide further opportunities for mentoring and networking.

Location: Virtual

Tuition: Free for individuals who are income qualified

What Kinds of Jobs Can I Get with Basic Computer Skills?

If you have a basic understanding of computers, word processing, and office management tools, there are a variety of entry-level jobs that you might consider. Here are a few examples:

Administrative Assistant: Administrative assistants support executives and managers in an office setting. They may be responsible for scheduling appointments, managing correspondence, and handling administrative tasks such as data entry and file management.

Customer Service Representative: Customer service representatives assist customers with questions or issues related to a product or service. They may be required to use computer systems to access customer information and resolve issues.

Data Entry Clerk: Data entry clerks are responsible for entering data into computer systems. They may need spreadsheet software or other tools to organize and manage data.
