A 501(c)3 nonprofit founded in 2016 as Albany Can Code, Can Code Communities develops non-traditional talent and advocates for a vibrant, inclusive tech talent pipeline.

We design and deliver workforce training courses, hands-on K-12 coding programs, professional and personal development workshops, and basic computer training programs, in alignment with the needs of employers, educators, talent and the community in general. Our mission is to shift mindsets about who can work in technology, remove cultural and economic barriers to joining the tech workforce, and establish and promote pathways to tech careers throughout the region.

Impact Statement

Can Code Communities delivers measurable economic mobility by equipping individuals with in-demand digital skills and connecting them to career opportunities. Participants experience significant wage gains and long-term career advancement, demonstrating the effectiveness of targeted workforce training in the digital economy.

Why This Work Matters

Digital skills are now required for the vast majority of jobs, yet access to training remains uneven. Without intentional intervention, existing inequities in the labor market will continue to widen. Can Code addresses this gap by providing accessible, high-quality training that leads directly to employment outcomes.

Scalability & Sustainability

By combining public funding, philanthropy, and strategic partnerships, Can Code is building a diversified funding model that supports long-term sustainability while continuing to innovate and expand its impact. Can Code’s model is designed for scalability through partnerships with educational institutions, workforce systems, and employers. The organization has successfully expanded across multiple states and regions and continues to build infrastructure to support growth.
